Ginx Woolly Linx Party February

Had a busy afternoon looking at all the projects that were joined to the January party. Aren't the best kind of gift those that are handmade. A lot to look at, and all very inspiring.

I really like Con Hilos, Lanas y Botones's jacket. Lots of great instructions, and finished off with a cosy fur collar.

Lalka Crochet has made an adorable Loch Ness Monster. I think with his tartan bow he will be greatly loved. I went on a sailing holiday on Loch Ness many years ago, but unfortunately did not see the monster.

Carolyn of Flickensalat has gone for natural tones for her tablemat and set of coasters. Very sophisticated.

And finally Liz of  Howling at the Moon has made a horse shawl for her daughter's birthday.

Conker With Shell

I don't seem to be getting much completed at the moment, but do have a pattern in progress, which as usual is taking me longer than I expected. But this work got interrupted by an order in my Etsy shop for a conker and complete shell. This is made from my own pattern Conker. The shell although small takes quite a lot of knitting, with all those spikes. There is something quite pleasing about the way the conker looks so much like a real conker. So this is winging its way to Wigan, and I am now getting back to my other project.

Garden Diary January

I have not been doing my monthly garden diary, as there is really not much going on, and it has been a bit wet to even get out.

But today we went out to plant three blackcurrant roots which I had ordered online, and then had a bit of a chop at some of the brambles. I then noticed that there is still hope for the broccoli. Each plant now has the beginning of a purple head, so perhaps we will get a broccoli crop.

Another of the plants that I had nearly given up on, as I could see the caterpillars chomping through the leaves, but somehow once they have got to a certain size, and left to their own devices they seem to have made it.

Not much on the knitting or crochet front, but I have some wool on order, so perhaps I will have something to show soon.

Crochet Hairband

I am still doing crochet, instead of knitting, for a while. For this hairband I just joined a ring of granny squares, made from a sock wool. I thought the sock wool made it a bit more interesting than just a plain colour.

My idea was to make a strip of squares, and put elastic at the back. But my daughter said she would prefer a complete ring, and so far it is standing up to the stretch.

I truly think I have mastered the basic granny square, as I am also making some for a blanket/throw. It really is time to move on with the crochet, but not quite sure where to go next.

Crochet Bucket Hat

I have been doing a bit of crochet. Although I have tried a few times before, I really don't know what I am doing, and find it very difficult to follow a pattern, or even harder a diagram. But with a bit of help from some youtube tutorials I have managed to make my daughter a hat.

I first found one video that explained how to make a circle for the top. Then another one that showed me how to make a basic granny square for the vertical section. I then I continued with my circles for the brim. The idea was to make a bucket hat - the sort you could perhaps wear to a festival, if they ever take place again.

I am not sure that this first effort will ever be worn out, as she was a very reluctant model, but it has sort of inspired me with crochet. I can see that it might be easier for making some of my small round creatures, where I have to work really hard with knitting and short rows to get curves. I also quite like that you can stop at any point mid-row.

So for the moment I am making granny squares. The simplest sort, but I may try and branch out with some more complicated ones at some point.
