House Guests

Since just before Christmas we have had two house guests. Here they are: Sugar and Dave. They are mother and son, and have been staying with us as my sister has been moving house. They will be off to their new home soon, and we will miss them.

Sugar has been queen of the house. She is a lap cat and has a very soft, thick coat, and is the main reason we have been covered in cat hairs for the last few months. Aren't her eyes pretty.

I put this picture on my facebook page, which is her transfixed by birds on the telly. Whenever a wildlife programme comes on she is glued to the screen. Did you know you can find short films of birds on Youtube, for if your cat just can't get enough on regular TV? This is Sugar at the computer. She even got excited when we were watching the animated film Rio.

Despite her obsession Sugar has not yet caught any wildlife, partly I think because she is so visable, and also because she makes a funny noise in her throat due to excitement whenever she sees a bird, so they realize she is there.

Dave, who is the most lovely natured cat, doesn't have this problem, and frequently brings us little presents in from the garden!

  1. Sugar doesn't seem to have the athletic build of a hunter, does she? LOL

  2. Sugar looks very similar to a cat we had when we were growing up. His name was Garfield and he lived to about 18 years and even survived a snake bite from one of the deadliest snakes in the world. Guess it is true that they have 9 lives.

  4. What wonderful houseguests. While Dave is an attractive fellow, I just love Sugar- and how cute she is watching the screens. My last cat used to do that too, it's such fun to watch. I really miss having a cat in the house, but one of my dogs really hates cats, it wouldn't be a workable situation.

  5. I enjoyed the lovely photos of your house guests. They were so good to pose for you, especially in the close-ups. My favorite is Dave watching the bird on the feeder on TV. I'm sure you will miss them a lot when they go back to live with your sister.

  7. Sugar is and Dave are fabulous, I'm a cray cat lady I think, I could never have guest like this, they wouldn't be able to go back home, I'd need to keep them. I had a Cat like Sugar with the two different eyes, loved her dearly. She was best friends with our German Shepherd until the Shepherd had puppies, she was so upset she just left one day. We were heart broken, and the Shepherd was devastated, she didn't eat for days, and looked constantly for her.

  8. Thanks for the cat fix. Due to my DH's allergies, I had to give my cat away. He loved the nature shows, too. I guess it gives them a little mental stimulation with no threat to any wildlife.
Funny, I was in a Peruvian themed restaurant yesterday (very good food) and they had some Peruvian crafts decorating the restaurant. The restaurant was in a strip mall, and hanging in the glass door that they weren't using, they hung long multi-colored yarn braids with multi-colored pom poms spaced every foot or so. Charming touch, but as I gazed at it, I thought, a cat would go crazy for these. They wouldn't last a day. How do Dave and Sugar fare with your hobby?

    1. They are pretty good at not playing with my wool, though I am very careful to keep my projects in bags when I am not working on them. I do spend quite a bit of time removing cat hairs though, especially Sugar's.

  12. Adorable cats! How long will they be with you?

My cat Lucy whom I lost in December wasn't overly successful in catching birds or squirrels. She seem very entranced with them, but always pounced too late and only in a half-hearted way. Lucy did once bring us a bunny, which we promptly rescued. She also once brought us a dead baby bird. We hope that she found it that way. :-)

Neither Lucy nor my current cat Cinder seem to take any interest in television. However, some of my dogs have, as well as my guinea pigs. My first guinea pig loved mysteries. :-)

  13. My projects are always covered in dog and cat hairs, you seem to be avoiding that pitfall pretty well. They are lovely, you'll miss their company when they go home.
