Parakeet
No, I'm not on a trip to the tropics.
Parakeets have become a normal sight in my part of London. A few years ago you would very occasionally see one, but it now very common to see and hear them in Richmond Park and the surrounding area. This one was taking a rest in my garden.
There are various theories about how they have arrived in this part of London. One popular idea is that they escaped from a film studio during the filming of The African Queen.

Great capture - it looks like it's giving you a cheeky 'hi ya' :-)
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I don't see any bigger birds like that around here except for crows, ravens and buzzards. All the ones that visit my yard are small like the Blue Jays and Cardinals.

Of course, that must be it. An escapee from a movie set! What an exotic capture. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous! What a little surprise to find such a bird in the local park. Thanks for sharing...and here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
ReplyDeletehere they are too.. they fly in bigggggg flocks together to a garden to eat.. hahaha then u are soooo angry because they wont stop untill all ur fruit is gone..
ReplyDeleteLovely photo- it's an Alexandrine parrot. We saw these in Holland. There are quite large flocks developing in several parts of Europe- rather extraordinary given that they're originally from India.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading Louise's blog and saw similar pictures. I thought how cool it would be to see them in trees outside my window. Lucky you. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird and fun story to go with it! Would never have thought of these birds in London!
ReplyDeleteA nearby two to us has flocks of them too

i remember seeing the same in nyc when i used to live there... i think the thought was they were "escaped" (or should I say released) by owners who might have had a enough! lovely picture!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were parakeets in your part of London. Love your knitting, by the way, especially the shells and Henrietta. Thanks for sharing.
