Toad Crossing
This happens every year now, thanks to a group of toad enthusiasts. I did head up the road with my camera looking for a likely toad to photograph, but had no luck. I think I would have needed to head out in the rain at night, and I didn't quite have the stamina for that. What is the most unusual road sign you have seen?
Love this!! I wouldn't have gone out at night in the rain either!!
ReplyDeleteWow that is one of the most interesting things I have ever seen. The only toads that we had in Australia were cane toads which are a menace so there would have not been any signs protecting them.
ReplyDeleteHow fascinating! Like Sean I only thought of our introduced cane toads here in Australia- people actively try to run them down, they have spread like wildfire and are taking a terrible toll on many of our native species. Do you know what sort of toad your locals are protecting? I hope you find one to photograph at one stage.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I will have to think about unusual signs...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun sign! Cool that someone is watching out for the toads.

This is a great picture. It reminds me of something similar that happened in the Miami, Florida, area beginning each August. Land crabs would migrate to Biscayne Bay across Old Cutler Road, heading for the water. Unfortunately, there were no signs to protect the crabs and many ended up killed by automobiles. Sometimes they had the last laugh, however, when their hard shells caused flat tires! http://www.theledger.com/article/20110814/NEWS/110819725?p=1&tc=pg
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! I haven't seen anything like that before. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteLove this, we do love our wildlife here in the UK

I knew that there were issues worldwide with frog populations, but I didn't know that toads were also susceptible (for the reasons Sean & Louise have already gone into).
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet xx
