Morris Traveller Pattern

Sometimes a pattern will just fly off the needles, and other times it is more difficult. But this one has gone beyond difficult into another zone. It has taken me over six months to get the final version, and I am sort of done with it now.

 

I knitted the first version, the black morris traveller, for my mother-in-law for Christmas. Actually that is my favourite one, and my daughter tells me it went well because it was made with love. But when I decided to do another test knit, the pattern I thought I had written up had gaps. The second version, the light green, is fine from the sides but just didn't look in proportion widthwise. So finally I have knitted the last morris traveller in burgundy, and I think at last we are there.

There are slight variations in the different models of morris traveller. Some have the front windscreen divided in two. But I hope I have caught the main features - the curvy bonnet, and the wooden frame at the back.

You hardly ever see a morris traveller these days. More often a morris minor might be about. So I am not really expecting this pattern to be a big seller, but sometimes you just have to make something for the love of it.

2CV Memories

I have sold my Henrietta 2CV pattern quite a few times, but only occasionally seen the finished car by someone who isn't me. Sometimes on ravelry knitters do link up their projects, but on Etsy there isn't any way to do this. But recently more and more often the download function doesn't work on Etsy. Customers end up sending me a message, and then when I have their email I can send them the pattern this way. 

This happened with Rosie a few weeks ago, and during our chat I said I would love to see her car when it is made. I was delighted one morning to wake up to an email with these photos of her finished 2CV. 

Like her I have a very emotional attachment to 2CV cars. Driving one felt like a private club, as 2CV drivers would always wave madly to each other. You can read about my memories here. Rosie told me that she and her late husband owned an emerald green 2CV bought in Northern Ireland in 1976. One of the first ones in the country. Her husband was a massive fan of Citroen cars and their technology so they had a lot of Citroen cars through their married life. Her first daughter born in 1977 was brought home from hospital in a Moses basket on the back seat of this car. No car seats or seat belts in those days!. 

So if you have made something from any of my patterns I would love to see it, and also any feedback on the pattern itself is always welcome.

It may seem that I haven't posted much knitting recently. I have been knitting, but most of this has been on a jumper for my daughter. I think I have mentioned before I am not particularly quick at knitting. I still have the front piece to make, but I am getting there. I also have a new pattern in the pipeline, and have made a special order for a customer's wedding anniversary. So although it is unlikely that this ladies husband is looking a knitting blogs, will not post pictures until after the celebration.

My Very Own Mini Cooper

I have made my fair share of knitted mini coopers over the years. I have tried to do a count up, and think it is at least 15, but I have have missed some. But finally I have made a car for myself, and it is going to live on the back shelf of my very own mini cooper.
  

This knitted car is smaller than the usual cars I make from my Mini Cooper pattern, as I decided to knit it in Cornwall over the half-term holiday. I rather stupidly only took the needles for the wheels. The body of the car is knitted on larger needles. So I had to really adapt the wheels so they were in proportion.

It sort of upsets me that real life minis seem to be getting bigger and bigger.  Occasionally you still see an orginal mini, and they really are like a different car to the mini countryman. Little confession - I was quite keen to get a Fiat, but was over-ruled, and now we have the mini (called Neville) I really love it. It is very easy to park, but also quite nippy when needed. I am taking my daughter out in it for driving practice, and she finds it a lot more powerful than the driving instructor's car on which she is also learning.

Yellow 2CV

I was joking about my Christmas Rush, but orders do seem to be picking up. This yellow 2CV is now on its way to Poland. Made from my Henrietta 2CV pattern. I do hope it makes someone happy. Very hard to get nice photos, as it seems to be dark when I leave the house, and when I return.
